Howard L. Brooks, 89, of Galva, died at 3:10 p.m., Thursday, July 9, 2026 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
He was born on February 13, 1937 in Moundville, MO, the son of Leonard and Reba (Iseman) Brooks. He married Kathleen J. “Katie” Nichols on July 30, 1955 in Glasgow, IA and she preceded him in death on November 5, 2014. Survivors include his three sons; Virgil (Judy) Brooks of Galva, Dan (Stacey) Brooks of Arizona and Ken (Charlie) Brooks of Galva, one sister, Barbara Tabb of Abingdon, six grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Leon and Robert, a sister, Phyllis and grandson, Austin Porter.
Howard served his country in the Army National Guard. He worked as a building contractor. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Galva, the Galva Lions Club and the Galva Senior Citizens Center where he enjoyed playing pitch.
Per his wishes, cremation will be accorded and no services are planned at this time. Memorials may be directed to the Galva Lions Club or to the Galva Senior Citizens Center. Rux Funeral Home in Galva is assisting the family with arrangements.
