Howard "Buck" Crowell Obituary

KEWANEE – Howard A. “Buck” Crowell Jr., 78, of rural Kewanee, died at 8:20 a.m., Friday, February 9, 2018 at the Kewanee Care Home.

Private services will be held at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Rev. Dr. Dale Dykstra will officiate. A public visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Saturday, February 17 at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation and private inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Howard “Buck” Crowell Memorial Fund.

He was born July 21, 1939 in Wauwatosa, WI, the son of Howard “Ike” and Rachel (Williams) Crowell Sr. He married Nancy Mae Werts on February 22, 1958 in Pine City, MN and together they raised four children. She preceded him in death on February 10, 1984. He was united in marriage to Kathy Radford on January 18, 1988 in Las Vegas, NV. Survivors include his wife of Kewanee, three sons, Jeff Crowell of Woodland Park, CO, Kent (Karen) Crowell of Kewanee and Scott (Tami) Crowell of Bloomington, IL, his daughter, Diane (Russell) Walker of Annawan, three sisters, Darleen Vergin of Dallas, WI, Debbie Putske of Barron, WI and Maree Trotter of Iron River, MI, a brother-in-law, Orville Halvorson, seven grandchildren, Christopher (Lacey) Crowell, Katie Crowell, Ryne (Lana) Crowell, Kylen Crowell, Rachel Lippens (Dustin DeReu), Heath Walker and Sean Walker and nine great grandchildren, Nehemiah, Bella Rose, Sebastian, Gabriel, James, Liam, Isaac, Jack and Kellan. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Janice Ebert, Patricia Halvorson and Chris Schendorf and his in-laws, Harold and Marjorie Radford.

Buck was a 1958 graduate of Cameron High School in Wisconsin. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves, while raising his children. He had worked for Schwan’s for 18 years and had also worked for Meadow Gold Diary and Vendall Vending Machines. He was a member of the Kewanee American Legion and enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting and bowling with family and friends and especially enjoyed cheering on the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Cubs. “Go Pack Go”
