Irene H. Johnson

BISHOP HILL - Irene H. Johnson, 104, a resident at Courtyard Estates in Galva, formerly of Bishop Hill, died at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, November 11, 2023 at the estates.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 16 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva with Chaplain Jordan Knight officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Private burial will follow at Bishop Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.

She was born February 8, 1919 in Henry County, Illinois, the daughter of James and Edna (Tillman) Kelly. She married Louis W. “Louie” Johnson on November 2, 1945 in Kewanee and he preceded her in death on November 27, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a grandson and a great granddaughter. She is survived by her children, Kathleen Litwiler of Woodhull, Barbara (Kent) Freburg of Crookston, MN, Ronald Johnson of Bishop Hill and Tim (Cheryl) Johnson of Alpha, eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Irene graduated from Galva High School in 1937. She was a homemaker and in her early years had worked at the Rock Island Arsenal. She enjoyed baking and shopping, but most of all she loved her family.
