Isaac L. Newman, 97, of LaFayette, passed away peacefully at 11:15 a.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at the Hillcrest Home in rural Geneseo.
He was born on August 16, 1928 in West Jersey Township, IL, the son of Herbert Earl and Mabel Helen (Noard) Newman. Survivors include his nieces and nephews; Tom (Marilyn) Newman of rural Annawan, Jeanne Carmichael of Beaufort, SC, Mike (Mary) Casteel of Arizona, Janice (Rollie) Wilson of Las Vegas, NV and Scott (Lisa) Casteel of Arizona and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Seldon and Lyle Newman, sister, Warba Casteel, niece, Linda Newman and nephew, Richard Newman.
Isaac graduated from LaFayette High School and attended Western Illinois Teachers College in Macomb and obtained his Bachelor of Science in General Agriculture from the University of Illinois in Champaign. He served his country in the U.S. Army working for counterintelligence and was stationed in Germany. He farmed the family farm in the LaFayette area for many years. He also worked at Arends Orchard and at one time was the oldest apple picker in the State of Illinois. Isaac enjoyed gardening and was a collector of wildlife prints, oil paintings, crystal and glassware.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 28 at LaFayette Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. Memorial donations may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice. Rux Funeral Home in Galva is assisting the family with arrangements.
