James Taylor Obituary

WASHBURN - James E. Taylor, 100, of Washburn, IL, formerly of LaFayette and Peoria, died at 2:08 a.m., Monday, May 29, 2023 at the home of his son, Gary.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 2 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva with Rev. Martin Gutzmer officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Galva Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. Memorials may be directed to the Disabled Veterans.

He was born October 5, 1922 in Bristol, TN, the son of Eugene and Virginia “Virgie” (Stewart) Taylor. He married Elsie Kermode on March 7, 1942 and she preceded him in death on January 8, 2018. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Roger and Ronald Taylor, two brothers, Mac and Stanley Taylor and a great grandson, Kody Taylor. He is survived by a son, Gary (Trisha) Taylor of Washburn, a daughter-in-law, Peggy Taylor of East Peoria, five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. When Jim and Elsie were younger, they took in a boy and helped raised him. His name was Mike Snyder of Decatur. Even though they never adopted him, they always considered him to be a son.

James graduated from LaFayette High School in 1940. He served his country as a U.S. Marines during WWII. He had worked as a personnel supervisor for Hiram Walkers in Peoria. He had been a basketball coach in the Biddie Basketball League through the Salvation Army and had also been a referee throughout Central Illinois He enjoyed camping at Landuits Lake Resort in rural Hinsdale, IL.
