KEWANEE – James A. “Jim” Jones, 73, of Kewanee, died of lung cancer on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at his home.
Cremation will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 17 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. The Very Rev. Jerry Rafalko will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Sunday, February 16 at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Henry County Humane Society or to Abilities Plus.
He was born September 28, 1946 in Kewanee, the son of O.B. and Evelyn (Hill) Jones. Survivors include his longtime partner, Gail Ripka of Kewanee, daughter, Jayme (David) Lynford of Florida, son, James Jones of Peoria, three grandchildren; Abigail Jones of Spring Valley, Kendall Jones of Missouri and Collin Lynford of Florida and his sister, Diane Hodgett of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sandy Gillespie.
Jim graduated from Kewanee High School in 1964. Early in his career he served as an Illinois State Trooper. Later he worked as a drywall finisher. After retirement he drove for Henry County Transportation which was a job he thoroughly enjoyed.
Along with drinking beer, Jim enjoyed time spent outdoors, especially with his dogs. He was a talented musician who could play any stringed instrument that he picked up.
