James C. "Jim" Coakley Obituary

GALVA – James C. “Jim” Coakley, 67, of Galva, died Wednesday, February 28, 2024 in Galva.

He was born May 17, 1956 in Moline, the son of Calvin Cornelius and Lois Anne (Penix) Coakley. He married Mariann M. Waggoner on December 12, 2012 in Galva. Survivors include his wife of Galva, his five children; Os’scarr Coakley of Galva, Douglas (Maggie) Schmidt of Galva, Amber (Melvin) Inman of Newton, IA, Samantha Schmidt (William Despain) of Galva and Jerzie and Luciee Coakley, both of Galva, three sisters; Gloria (Dan) Sheldon of Clinton, IA, Pam Coakley of Moline, and Sharon Kermeen of Sterling and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Alica Coakley and two angel infants.

Jim graduated from United Township High School in East Moline, IL. He worked for the water department at Big River Resources in Galva for six years until his retirement. He had also worked for John Deere and Bob Evans and was the director of the Galva Ambulance Service for several years. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed watching football and baseball. Most of all he loved his family and cherished the time spent with them.

A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, March 4 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation. Memorials may be directed to the family.
