GALVA - James David “Jim” Collister, 88, of Galva, passed away peacefully at 7:10 a.m., Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at the Hillcrest Home in rural Geneseo.
He was born on October 21, 1937 at home in Lynn Township, just south of Galva, the son of William and Alice (Eckley) Collister. He married Joan M. Anderson on January 25, 1964 in Oneida and she preceded him in death on April 1, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother Donald. Survivors include his two daughters, Diane (Lanny) Dobbels of Galva and Tammy (Dave) Natof of Rio, four grandchildren; Nate (Kassie) Dobbels, Dr. Austin (Tiffany) Dobbels, Cody Natof and Dr. Tyler Natof and his fiancé Ally Perko, great grandchildren; Everett, Kaylee and Theodore, a sister, Mary Krause and a sister-in-law, Carol Seaman.
Jim graduated from Galva High School in 1955. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1960-62. He farmed until retiring in 2000. He had also worked as an assembly worker at Kress in Brimfield for 30 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Galva and enjoyed collecting toy tractors.
A private graveside service will be held at Galva Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice. Rux Funeral Home in Galva is assisting the family with arrangements.
