LITTLETON, CO - James M. Stodgel, 89, a longtime resident of Elmwood, IL passed peacefully Thursday, June 25, 2020 surrounded by love.
Jim's life will be honored during a graveside service at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 6 at Elmore Cemetery. Pastor Teri Shane will officiate. Visitation will begin graveside at 9:00 a.m. directly followed by the service, with military rites and burial. Memorial donations can be made to the Arbor Day Foundation at arborday.org. Rux Funeral Home in Williamsfield is in charge of arrangements.
Jim was born in Streator,IL to Orville “OG” and Madolyn Stodgel on November 9,1930. He was big brother to Robert “Bob” Stodgel and Nancy Self. Jim met his beloved Ada Bowman, fell in love, and was married on March 25, 1962. Jim was the proud father of Debby (Darrell) Parrish, Gianna (Tony) Peters, Jim “Bo” (Cindy) Stodgel and Andy (Kris) Stodgel. Jim's loving family includes grandchildren Jason and Jared (Kris) Moore, Alex, Teagan and Zoey Peters, John, Doug and Jake Stodgel, Holden Mabrey, Kate (Sarah) Stodgel-Parris, Madolyn Stodgel, and great grandchildren Lexi, Max and Elly.
Jim was a proud member of the United States Navy, serving on the USS Rosevelt during the Korean War Conflict. College at ISU was his next chapter where he met Ada. Jim spent most of his working life, until retirement, at Gates Rubber Company. After retirement Jim enjoyed his time as a postal carrier, mowing parks around town in Elmwood, as well as tending to his garden.
Jim's passion was the St. Louis Cardinals, especially when they were winning. Stan "The Man" Musial was his all-time favorite. Jim's other interests included US history, reading, going on walks around town and he even tried his hand at growing statice plants.
In passing Jim joins his parents OG and Madolyn, brother Bob, wife Ada, and grandson Jason.
Jim will be missed.
