SPRINGFIELD – James Robert Armstrong, 52, of Springfield, IL, died Monday, February 17, 2020 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, IN.
Cremation has been accorded and due to the restrictions of COVID-19 a memorial service will be held at later date at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kewanee. Inurnment will eventually be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the family to assist with medical and burial expenses. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.
He was born December 23, 1967 in Alex, OK, the son of Jesse and Edna (Green) Armstrong. He married Michelle Thompson on March 15, 2013 in Joliet, IL. Survivors include his wife, two sons, James Armstrong Jr. and Brett Armstrong, four daughters; Kendra Kinroth, Cheyenne Miller and Samantha and Sabrina Armstrong, two step-sons, Andrew Carter and Jake Wills, his in-laws, William (Judith) Thompson, son-in-law, Luke Miller, brother-in-law, Kevin Thompson and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
James served his country in the U.S. Navy as a corpsman and achieved an Associate’s degree in Culinary Arts. He obtained his CDL and was a truck driver for 30 years, working for Risinger Brother Transfer, Inc. and owner and operator of Armstrong Silver Express, LLC. He was also a driving instructor and mentor. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
