Obituary
KEWANEE – Janet A. Elgin, 82, of Kewanee, died at 10:46 a.m., Thursday, March 31, 2022 at the Kewanee Care Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 6 at Saint John Paul II Parish in Kewanee. Celebrant will be Fr. Johndamaseni Zilimu. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 5 with recitation of the rosary at 4:30 p.m at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in rural Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to Saint John Paul II Parish or to Visitation Catholic School.
She was born January 20, 1940 in Galva, the daughter of William P. and Margaret V. (Huffman) Sherbeyn. She married Chester E. “Chet” Elgin on September 10, 1960 in Galva and he preceded her in death on October 1, 2017. Survivors include her two sons, Marty (Laura) Elgin of Burlington, WI and Jack Elgin of San Diego, CA, three grandchildren; Alexis, Amanda and Nathaniel and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Donna Tucker and Marietta Clausen.
Janet graduated from Galva High School and had worked at Kewanee Office Supply. She was a member of Saint John Paul Parish and its Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
