GALVA – Jerry L. Hoxworth, 80, of Galva, died at 10:05 p.m., Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport, IA.
He was born December 21, 1942 in Kewanee, the son of Weldon and Bonidene (Hovell) Hoxworth. He married Bonnie Jo Johnston on June 22, 1963 in Tupelo, MS. Survivors include his wife of 60 years of Galva, his children; Lisa (Bob) Leemans and Tom Hoxworth, both of Galva and David (Chris) Hoxworth of Hartford, WI, his brother, Randy (Pam) Hoxworth of Galva, nine grandchildren; Logyn, Ashton (Steven), Reece (Paige), Rhett, Jacob, Matt (Avalon), Maddie, Cooper and Grace and a great grandchild, Rylan. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jerry worked for the City of Galva in multiple positions until his retirement as head of the water treatment plant. He was also Fire Chief of the Galva Fire Dept. from 1993-2001. He was a volunteer and board member of the Galva Historical Society, board member for both the Henry County Courthouse and the Galva Park District and had been selected as the Grand Marshall of the Galva Freedom Fest.
He enjoyed coaching baseball and was an avid sports fan attending all of his children and grandchildren’s games and events. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and doing puzzles, but most all he loved spending time and visiting with his family and friends.
Private graveside services will be held at Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg or to Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport, IA. Rux Funeral Home in Galva is in charge of arrangements.
