KEWANEE - Joan M. Huffman, 88, of Kewanee, died Thursday, September 23, 2021 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born January 7, 1933 in Kewanee, the daughter of Leo A. and Eva Rose (Draminski) Jachowicz. She married L. Brent Huffman on February 13, 1954 in Kewanee and he preceded her in death on May 27, 2017. Survivors include her two children, Lynn (Gerald) Skizas of Estero, FL and Paul (Lynn) Huffman, of Weatherford, TX, five grandchildren; Jaime, Amianne, Michael Ann, Danielle and Jacob, three great granddaughters; Emery, Cadence and Stella, two nieces, Gail and Denise, both of California and a nephew, Carl of Geneseo. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Rose Nelson.
Joan graduated from Kewanee High School in 1950 and from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing. She had worked as nurse at St. Francis Hospital and then left nursing to stay at home but later returned to work as a physical therapist assistant at Kewanee Public Hospital and then as a dental assistant for Dr. Gleason. She was of the Catholic faith and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She was a founding member of the Windmont Park Lighting Committee and she enjoyed cross stitching, bowling and golfing. She also enjoyed meeting with friends at her monthly high school reunions, going out to dinner with friends on Friday nights and gathering with the St. Francis of Assisi Altar and Rosary group.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 29 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 30 at the funeral home with Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Windmont Park Lighting Fund. The funeral home will maintain compliance with COVID regulations and requires that all guests wear a mask for the safety of all those attending.
