WILLIAMSFIELD – Joseph “Joe” Cuevas, 76, of Williamsfield, died at 3:37 a.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at his home.
He was born on May 21, 1948 in Monica, IL, the son of Ignacio and Cora (Plue) Cuevas. He married Sally M. Carlson on August 5, 1972 in Williamsfield. Survivors include his wife of Williamsfield, his two daughters, Angela (Chad) Powell and Shannon Cuevas, both of Williamsfield, three brothers; Charlie (Rhonda) Cuevas of Marquette Heights, IL, David (Tracy) Cuevas of Galesburg and James (Tina) Cuevas of Edelstein, IL, four grandchildren with one on the way; Dayton, Gabrielle, Grace and Casey and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Joe worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 32 years as a track layer and later for BNSF which he affectionately referred to as the “Brand New Santa Fe”. He was a member of the Williamsfield United Methodist Church. He had a love for trains and had collected some model trains. He was an avid John Wayne fan and enjoyed watching old westerns and listening to the oldies of country music including Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Johnny Cash.
A visitation will be held from 12:30-2:30 p.m., Saturday, February 22 at Rux Funeral Home in Williamsfield. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation and private inurnment will be held at a later date. Following the visitation a time of further fellowship and refreshment will be held at the Williamsfield United Methodist Church. Memorials may be directed to the Williamsfield Food Pantry or to the American Lung Association.
