John K. Evans

HAMMOND,IN - John Kenneth Evans, 72, died at 4:25 p.m., Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Franciscan Health in Hammond, IN. 

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm., Tuesday, August 10 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with Rev. Lawrence Anderson officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Pleasant View Cemetery in Kewanee. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.

Born August 18, 1948, John is the first-born child from the union of John and Louise Evans born in Kewanee IL. In May of 1968, John graduated from Kewanee’s Wethersfield High School. Noted for his achievements in athletics, John was captain of one of the best football teams in Wethersfield High School history. He along with his brother Larry led Wethersfield to an undefeated record! John was also a basketball and track standout for the flying geese.

After graduation, John migrated to Chicago, IL. In Chicago John gained employment with the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) were he earned the title of Operator and later obtaining the title of Master Trainer. (John was always a good coach whether he was teaching his kids how to fish or while training mass transit operators on how too successfully transport customers from point A to point B).

John’s spiritual journey became affirmed when he embraced Catholicism at Holy Rosary Parish in Chicago. John promoted several fundraising events, which had great success. The church body embraced his actions and soon after John was elected President of the Church Civilian Board: L.I.F.T. (Living in Faith Together) serving two terms.

John Kenneth Evans impact on this life will always be embraced and cherished. His Legacy is continued by his loving wife, Shirley Evans. His sons, Earl Evans and John & Rachel Evans IV, both of Tennessee and Jonathan Holiday of Wisconsin. Daughters, Tasha Evans of Illinois and Desiree Price of Kentucky. Grandchildren: Marcus, Logan, Aniya, Alexus, Jada, Elara and Jace. John’s sisters: Loureen Evans and Deborah Benson, both of California and Janice Evans and Thelma Pittman, both of Texas. John’s brothers whom preceded him in transition: Ronald and Larry Evans, both of Illinois and Mark Evans of Florida. Sisters in Law: Elizabeth Evans and Helen Hudson, both of Illinois, Brother in Law Howard Overton. John is also survived by his former wife Earline Evans of Illinois.

Father, Husband, Brother, Son, Grandpa, skilled hunter, obsessed angler, traveler, communicator, organizer and athlete. Many titles for just one lifetime.  Have a Blessed Journey!!
