KEWANEE - John Frank Kubinski, 100, of Kewanee, passed away peacefully at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 26, 2025 at Arcadia Care at Kewanee.
He was born December 30, 1924 in Michigan City, IN, the son of Stanley and Anna (Witczak) Kubinksi. He is survived by his caregivers Mike (Debbie), Kubinsky and their family and his friend in later years, Charlie Harmes as well as several distant cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
John had attended Kewanee High School and graduated with the Class of 1944. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and was in the European Theater from June 19, 1943 until February 7, 1946. He was in the 5th Infantry Division and was decorated with the Purple Heart. He had worked as a boilermaker at Kewanee Boiler for 39 years. He had also worked at Tri-County Boiler Repair for a number of years. During his tenure at Kewanee Boiler, John earned recognition for his innovations and cost saving production methods. He was also instrumental in designing several Kewanee Hog Day float entries for the boiler shop. He was a life-time member of Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church and the Kewanee VFW. He was also a member of the Boilermakers Union Local #195. John enjoyed metal and wood crafting, gardening and a love of chocolate.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church in Kewanee. Celebrant will be Rev. John Cramer. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. The burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Memorials may be directed to his church.
The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care by the nurses and staff extended to John over the years at Arcadia Care of Kewanee and Compassus Hospice.
