Karol Ault Obituary

GALVA – Gary E. Ault, 72, of Galva, died at 9:26 p.m., Saturday, December 11, 2021 and his wife, Karol B. Ault, 71, of Galva, died at 2:38 p.m., Tuesday, December 14, 2021, both at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

Cremation will be accorded and a memorial service honoring the both of them will be held at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, January 22 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva with a visitation being held from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Military rites for Gary will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. Following the service, a luncheon will be held at the Bishop Hill Community United Methodist Church.

He was born March 23, 1949 in Kewanee, the son of Carl E. and Eleanor M. (Lackie) Ault. Karol was born November 9, 1950, the daughter of Harold (Lorraine) (Wilt) Brubaker. They were married on March 19, 1971 at Visitation Church in Kewanee. Survivors include their two children, Brenda (Jim) Marek of Spring Lake, MI and Greg (Jolene) Ault of Cambridge, their grandchildren; Brodi and Kole Marek, Dalton (Bella) Thrasher and Christopher and Milan Craig and many nieces and nephews. Gary is also survived by a brother, Roger Ault and a sister, Karla (Randy) Vandermeersch. Karol is also survived by two brothers, Gary (Cami) Brubaker and Terry (Kay) Brubaker and a sister, Debbie Cooper. They were both preceded in death by their parents and in-laws and Gary was also preceded in death by three sisters; Colleen, Marion and Sherry.

Gary graduated from Galva High School in 1968 and from Black Hawk East. He served his country in the Army National Guard from 1969-76. Gary's passion and soul was in farming and continued to support his family as a steelworker in later years. 

Karol attended Visitation School and graduated from Kewanee High School in 1969. Karol worked in the nursing home industry and also as a bus driver for special needs kids. Karol was talented in sewing and extremely crafty and made jewelry in her later years.

Together they enjoyed fishing, farming and especially spending time with the grandkids.
