NEPONSET- Keith L. Shores, 81, of Neponset, went to be with his Lord at 8:34 p.m., Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa.
A memorial service to celebrate Keith’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 13 at the First Christian Church in Kewanee with Pastor John Reside officiating. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be held at Floral Hill Cemetery in Neponset followed by a time of fellowship and refreshment back at the First Christian Church. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.
Keith was born on April 24, 1944 at home in Littleton, IL. He married Ella “Tenia” Tongate on June 5, 1965 in Mt. Sterling, IL and she preceded him in death on November 5. 2013. Survivors include his two daughters, Kristina (Brett) Bennett and Selina (Chad) Hartweg, both of Kewanee, a son, Brian Shores of Kewanee, three grandsons, Sheldon Hartweg, Clayton Hartweg (Chloe) and Levi Shores, a great granddaughter, Carsyn and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Nancy Gillett and Norma Shores and a brother, Larry McNeeley.
Keith worked at International Harvester for many years until his retirement and later mowed for Midland Country Club. In his early years he had helped his father farm. He enjoyed being a member of the First Christian Church in Kewanee. He enjoyed raccoon and mushroom hunting, snowmobiling and fishing especially by hand. He was known in Neponset as the town mechanic and was always willing to fix anything for anybody. He loved his family and cherished the time spent with them.
