Kevin Michael Perez

KEWANEE – Kevin Michael Perez, 21, of Kewanee, died at 2:15 p.m., Sunday. August 2, 2020 in Lake County, IL from injuries sustained in a vehicular accident.

A public visitation will be held from 2:00-6:00 p.m., Sunday, August 9 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Funeral services for his family will be held on Monday, August 10 at the funeral home. Pastor Tammy Shane will officiate. The family requests casual attire and to wear blue in honor of Kevin’s favorite color. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.

He was born October 11, 1998 in Chicago, the son Gustavo Perez and Gina Marie Toutant. Survivors include his mother, Gina (Shane) Dykeman of Kewanee, his grandparents, Ernest Toutant Sr., Steve and Carla Dykeman and Alvaro and Francisca Perez, great grandmother, Juanita Lester, six siblings; Gustavo Perez Jr., Vincent Perez, Katie Perez, Eric Perez, Gabby Perez and Jordan Dykeman, a half-sister, Jessica Canales, a niece and a nephew and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and grandmother, Georgeanne “Gigi” Toutant.

Kevin was known by many as “Papa Hemi”, but to his mom he was her “Gentle Giant”. He was a 2017 Wethersfield High School graduate, and currently worked at Ace Distribution Center in Princeton as a forklift operator. Kevin loved his car, a Chrysler 300 that gained him the nickname “Papa Hemi”. Kevin recently purchased a motorcycle, which he also enjoyed to ride around on. He was a dedicated family man, a true rock for his close-knit family. Kevin had such a happy spirit, and could make anyone feel comfortable and included. He was the family teddy bear. A pure heart that will be missed by many.

The funeral home will monitor capacity limits to maintain compliance with COVID regulations. The funeral home requires that all guests wear a mask for the safety of all those attending.
