Larry L. Freeman

Larry Lee Freeman, 86, of Kewanee, passed away peacefully at 6:15 p.m., Sunday, August 2, 2026 at Prairie Place Senior Living in Kewanee.

He was born on October 1, 1939 in Chaffee, MO, the son Bryeans and Dorothy (Choate) Freeman. He married Janet (Engel) Junis on January 9, 1982 in Kewanee and she preceded him in death on December 17, 2016. Survivors include his three sons; Michael (Jean) Junis of Iowa City, IA, Martin (Deborah) Junis, of McLean, IL and Mitchell (Margie) Junis of LaFayette, IL, his daughter, Mary Jo (Peter) Hall of Cedar Rapids, IA, a brother, Barry (Janet) Freeman of Sullivan, IL, ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren with one on the way. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Larry obtained his Bachelor of Education from Eureka College. He taught history, government and physical education in Neponset and Stark County for 36 years until his retirement and coached football, basketball and track on the junior high and high school levels. He was a member of Saint John Paul II Parish in Kewanee. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears and enjoyed fishing, going to the casino and wintering in Florida.

The family would like to thank hospice and the staff at Prairie Place Senior Living for their exceptional care they bestowed upon Larry during his time there.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 21, 2026, at Saint John Paul II Parish in Kewanee with Fr. Narcis Katambe and Fr. Thomas Junis officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. at the church. The family asks that you honor Larry by wearing bright clothing or St. Louis Cardinals or Bears clothing for the services. Inurnment will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Food Pantry or Saint John Paul II Parish.
