LeRoy Carpenter, U.S. Army Veteran and lifetime resident of Kewanee passed away peacefully on September 11, 2024 at the age of 86 at the Kewanee Care Home. He appreciated the kindness and thoughtfulness of everyone there.
He is survived by his wife Carol (DeLathouwer) whom he married on September 25, 1960 at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Galesburg, IL. Loving father of Mary (Matt) Gabrielson of Lee’s Summit, MO and Cathy (Hal) Mowbray of Kewanee. Doting grandfather of Megan (Corey) Johnson of Provo, UT and Seth Mowbray of East Moline, IL, great grandfather of Jacob Mowbray and uncle to Dale (Kathy) VanDusen of Glendale, AZ. He is also survived by his sister, Jeanette (Dale) VanDusen Sutton and brother, Lyle (Marilyn) Carpenter. LeRoy instilled a good work ethic and foundation of faith in all his children and grandchildren.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his father, Earl Lloyd Carpenter, his mother, Violet (Spencer) Carpenter and in-laws, Carlos (Edna) DeLathouwer.
LeRoy was a graduate of Kewanee High School. He worked for Compaction America as a welder for 35 years and worked in the cafeteria at Wethersfield School for 5 years.
He was a faithful member of the Community of Christ Church for 74 years where he served as an Ordained Elder of the Melchizedek Priesthood. LeRoy loved attending church with his wife Carol, and they served throughout their life fulfilling many different callings.
LeRoy enjoyed his home and together with his wife hosted many family dinners. He loved to work outside and designed and built many things in his garage. He enjoyed all his wonderful neighbors and often took time to visit with them. He was a great listener and a caring and generous friend to many.
A visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Friday, September 13 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 14 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions directed to the Wethersfield High School Carpentry class or to Beacon of Hope Hospice would be appreciated.
