KEWANEE – Len A. DeVilder, 69, of Kewanee, died at 8:36 a.m., Thursday, April 18, 2024 at The Citadel of Sterling.
He was born August 19, 1954 in Kewanee, the year of its centennial. He was the son of Lionel E. and Jeane A. (McKinley) DeVilder. He married Gina Lisenbee on March 21, 1981 and they later divorced. Survivors include his three daughters; Jennifer DeVilder and Brandy (Justin) DeWaele, both of Walnut and Lynette DeVilder and her special friend Travis Brooks of Dixon, his seven grandchildren; Brittany (Brandon) Fulton, Lexi Ryan and her fiancé Kolton Church, Zack Donovan, Sam Rossi, Logan DeWaele, Vinnie Rossi and Tucker Brooks, brother and sister-in-law, Walter “Van” (Linda) DeVilder of Kewanee, half-sister, Jackie Forsbee of Bakersfield, CA and two nephews, Van A. DeVilder and Virgil E. DeVilder, both of Kewanee. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Len graduated from Kewanee High School in 1972. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1977 and served his country during the Vietnam Era as an electrician on the Cruiser Columbus CG. He apprenticed under George Wallace Heating & Air and eventually owned his own business. He also ran a crew in Houston, TX for several years. He was a member of the Kewanee American Legion where he was a Past Legion Commander and a Legionnaire for 50 years. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan and had coached softball for many years. He loved his family and enjoyed following his grandchildren’s activities.
Cremation will be accorded and graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 25 at Pleasant View Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck will officiate. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee American Legion. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.
