Leslie "Les" H. Bennett

NEPONSET - Leslie H. “Les” Bennett, 84, of Neponset, died at 10:46 p.m., Friday, June 22, 2023 at OSF Richard Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 26 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with Pastor Mara Ahles-Iverson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Floral Hill Cemetery in Neponset where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Memorials may be directed to the OSF Richard Owens Hospice Home.

He was born January 7, 1939 in Neponset, the son of Wilbur and Elizabeth (Stabler) Bennett. He is survived by a son, Jeff (Kida) Bennett of Goldsboro, NC, two daughters, Kelly (Michael Jr.) Dexter of Dunlap, IL and Tracey (Curt) Davis of St. Petersburg, FL, nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a sister, Mary (Orval) Hileman of Fairmont, WV and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Carol Bennett, Audrey Rakestraw and Shirley Anderson and three brothers, Wilbur, Ivan and LaVerne.

Les graduated from Neponset High School in 1958 and served his country in the U.S. Army. He had worked in manufacturing as a forklift operator and had also farmed. He enjoyed watching Westerns and helping out and socializing with family, friends and neighbors.
