KEWANEE – Louis Tenney Little, 100, of Clearwater, FL, formerly of Kewanee, died at 7:55 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at his home.
He was born February 21, 1920 in Wethersfield Township, IL, the son of Charles T. and Eva (Stokell) Little. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Charles, Wallace, and Ferman, as well as sisters, Norma and Evelyn.
Louis attended Wethersfield Schools and served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII obtaining the rank of Major. In addition to tours of duty in Normandy, Rhineland, and other air offensives in Europe, he was in command of the airborne division and engineering squadron of Wright Field in Ohio, supervising 1400 servicemen.
He was a local farmer and had been a business owner in Kewanee and Clearwater, FL. He was the 2008 recipient of the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizen Award. He is a descendent of one of the original Pioneer families of the area, and the steps Louis took to preserve local history will be remembered.
Louis’ funeral will take place at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 16, beginning at the Little Family log cabin located at 425 W. South Street in Kewanee, with a procession to his gravesite in the Wethersfield Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. The public is welcome to attend this outside ceremony as long as protective facemasks are worn and appropriate social distancing is honored. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Preservation Society. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.
