GALVA – Lucy B. Lindstrom, 103, of Galva, died at 7:13 a.m., Thursday, November 16, 2023 at her home.
She was born September 28, 1920 in Redfield, AR, the daughter of Stanley and Isal (Dalton) Jackson. The family traveled by horse and wagon to Illinois after Stanley inherited a farm near LaFayette in the late 1920’s. Lucy married Russell Lindstrom on May 30, 1940.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers; Alfred, Elmer, Everette, Edwin and Oscar, four sisters; Pansy, Hellen, Edith and Ida Jane in infancy and her husband, Russell. Survivors include her children, Judy Huber and Russell “Link” (Joyce) Lindstrom and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She lived through the roaring 20’s, Prohibition, the Great Depression, World War II, The Korean War and Vietnam and witnessed every advancement in cars, television, phones, space travel, internet, microwaves, every fashion trend and the invention of countless musical genres in the last 103 years.
Lucy worked at Lily Tulip for several years, starting at less than $1 per hour. Secondary work as a waitress at Godfrey’s allowed her to bring sandwiches home for the kids and she allowed them to count her tips. She could somehow stretch her limited income to find a few coins for an occasional movie or ice cream treat She always made time to spend with her children. No one could ask for a more loving mother.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 21 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva with Pastor Karen Martin officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
