Margaret "Peggy" Hegwood

KEWANEE – Margaret “Peggy” E. Hegwood, 56, of Kewanee, died Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 27 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with Carol Kersey officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded following the services. Memorials may be directed to her family.

She was born August 24, 1965 in Kewanee, the daughter of Edwin E. and Melva (Gibson) Hegwood. Those surviving include her son, Dustin Hegwood and his fiancé, Chelsea Popejoy of Kewanee, her sister Mary Lester of Kewanee, her grandson, Abel, nieces; Dawn Rusk, Tracey (Ryan) Herrick, Becky Hegwood, Patty Giesenhagen, and Amanda Gilland, nephews; Tom Rusk Jr. and Shawn (Stephanie) Rusk, and several great nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Ina Gilland, her brother, Edwin C. Hegwood, brother-in-law, Jack Lester, a great nephew, Colton Rusk, and great nieces, Caitlin and Cassandra Rusk.

Margaret graduated from Kewanee High School and went on to become a homemaker. Her family was incredibly important to her and she loved to bake for them; especially at Christmas time. She was known for her “nearly world-famous chicken and noodles”.  Crocheting was also a favorite pastime of hers.
