WASHINGTON - Marie L. Marchand, 85, of Washington, IL., formerly of Kewanee, died at 8:00 a.m., Thursday, August 5, 2021 at The Loft Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Eureka.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 11 at Saint John Paul II Parish in Kewanee. Celebrant will be Fr. Johndamaseni Zilimu. Visitation will be held from 5:00 -7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 10 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with recitation of the rosary at 4:30 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Visitation School Foundation.
She was born January 7, 1936 in Kewanee, the daughter of Gustaf and Margaret (Standaert) DeKeyser. She married Dennis J.”Denny” Marchand on September 1, 1956 at St. Joseph’s Church in Kewanee. He survives as do their children, Matthew (Rebecca) Marchand of Galva, Jason Marchand of Kewanee and Denise (Seng) Sophanavong and Deanna (Lyle) Baele, both of Washington, IL, nine grandchildren, Molly (Edward) Comarzan, Addison, Brock and Cameron Baele, Macy, Myles and Maya Sophanavong and Mason and Mayes Marchand, a sister, Dorothy Weston of Washington and a brother, John (Barbara) DeKeyser of Gresham OR. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Martin Joseph in infancy and her siblings, Don, Richard, Larry, Robert and Judy.
Marie was crowned Homecoming Queen in 1952 and had graduated from Kewanee High School in 1953. She had worked at Bond Walgreens District Office and for the Davenport City Bus Lines. She had been a member of Saint John Paul II Parish and its Altar and Rosary Society and was currently a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Washington, IL. Marie was a devout Catholic and prayed the rosary every day. She enjoyed doing crafts and crocheting and was a wonderful homemaker. Her family was her pride and joy, especially her grandchildren.
