KEWANEE - Marie Elizabeth “Maribeth” (Snider) Mikenas, 90, of Kewanee, died Sunday, March 8, 2020 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 16 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Visitation Foundation and Abilities Plus.
She was born August 18, 1929 in Kewanee, the daughter of Lloyd and Margaret (DeKeyser) Snider. She married CJ ‘Cutty’ Mikenas, the love of her life, at St. Anthony’s Church in Kewanee on July 9, 1950 and he preceded her in death on July 10, 2008.
Survivors include her three sons, Marty (Kathi) of Wauconda, IL, Mike (Linda Lofstrom) of Elgin, IL, and Mark of Kewanee; her five grandchildren, Ashley, Caleb, and Allie of Kewanee, IL, Jessica of Moab, UT, and Megan of Wauconda, IL; her sister, Patsy (Ken) Sullens of Kewanee; her brother, David (Joyce) of Dunlap, IL; her daughter-in-law, Diane Tucker-Mikenas of Kewanee; her nieces, Colette (Dan) Senger of Shanghai, China, and Amy (Patrick) Frenzel of Bloomfield Hills, MI; her nephews, Christopher (Kristine) Sullens of Kewanee, IL, and Britt (Kristin) Snider of Dunlap, IL; her cousin and God-daughter Carla (Donny) Heinlein of Arlington Heights, IL; her great-niece, Chloe Sullens and great-nephews, Drew and Jack Frenzel, and Winston and Louis Snider. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her grandson, Lucas James Mikenas, and her sister-in-law, Jenny Anderson. Maribeth attended Franklin School and graduated from Kewanee High School in 1947. In her earlier years she worked at Peoples National Bank, was a teacher’s aide at Visitation school, and was a den mother for the Cub Scouts troop. She played golf and was in the bowling league. She was a member of the Flemish American Club and American Legion Auxiliary from 1956. She was a devoted Cubs fan. She was a member of Saint John Paul II Parish. Maribeth’s gentle, kind, and generous spirit was known and experienced by all who knew her. Her greatest joy and love were her children, grandchildren, and extended family.
