Mary (Gusman) Lopez, 98, formerly of Edgewood Drive, Kewanee, IL, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024 at Emerald Place, Glenview, IL.
A graveside funeral service for Mary will begin at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kewanee with Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck officiating. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on January 21, 1926, in Kewanee to Joseph and Augustina (Ybarra) Gusman, the oldest daughter of 12 siblings. Mary was a member of the Kewanee High School Class of 1944. She married Henry Lopez on June 11, 1949. During their married life, they lived in several locations but primarily in Normal, IL where they raised their family and were members of Epiphany Catholic Church.
Later they lived many years in Tucson, AZ where Mary retired from working in the business office at St. Joseph’s Hospital. After retirement, Mary and her husband moved back to her hometown of Kewanee and spent enjoyable years being surrounded by her Gusman family. She loved her family and her town more than anything. Mary was a member of St. John Paul II Catholic Parish.
Mary is survived by her son, Henry David Lopez; 2 daughters, Lydia (Thomas) Hoelle and Dianne Lopez; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Pearl, Frances, Mary Pauline and Josephine; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, 4 brothers, Paul, Joseph, Lawrence and Frank; 2 sisters, Rosemary and Inez.
