KEWANEE - Mary Streicher, 97, a resident at Courtyard Estates in Kewanee, died at 1:26 p.m., Saturday, August 1, 2020 at the estates.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 5 at Saint John Paul II Parish in Kewanee. Celebrant will be Fr. Johndamaseni Zilimu. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 4 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with recitation of the rosary at 5:30 p.m. Cremation will be accorded following the service and private inurnment will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Saint John Paul II Parish or to the Henry County Senior Citizens Center. The funeral home will monitor capacity limits to maintain compliance with COVID regulations. The funeral home requires that all guests wear a mask for the safety of all those attending.
She was born on October 19, 1922, in Kewanee to John L. and Sophia M. (Theween) Phillips and was one of eleven children. She married John G. Streicher on October 18, 1941 and he was killed in Okinawa on June 10, 1945. Survivors include her son, Dennis (Helen) Streicher of Kankakee, IL, a daughter-in-law, Joella Streicher of Kewanee, six grandchildren; Sharon, Christopher, Hannah, Jay, Jill and Jane, eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her ten siblings, her son, John Streicher and a grandson, Josh Streicher.
Mary graduated from Kewanee High School in 1941. She was a lifetime homemaker and care giver to her brother, William DeClerk for 50 years and to her sister, Dorothy Iorio for 9 years. She had also volunteered at the Henry County Senior Citizens Center for 16 years. Mary was a member of Saint John Paul II Parish and its Altar & Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Gold Star Wives of America and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a former member of the Women’s Catholic Order of Foresters. Mary loved to travel, read, and cook.
