KEWANEE - Michael R. “Mike” Sizemore, 71, of Kewanee, died Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at his home.
He was born October 3, 1953, in Kewanee, the son of Lewis V. and Bernice M. (Rackouski) Sizemore. He is survived by a sister, Lori (Kevin) Elgin and a brother, Walter “Walt” Sizemore, both of Kewanee, six nieces and nephews, Angilina (Eric) Lang, Alissa Elgin-Ince and Krista Elgin, all of Kewanee, Kyle Elgin of Texas and Elizabeth Sizemore and Sean Patrick Sizemore, both of the Quad-Cities area and two great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew, Walter Lewis Sizemore II and a niece in infancy, Tara Ann Sizemore.
Mike graduated from Kewanee High School in 1971. He then attended Black Hawk East and Illinois Central College. He began as a millwright journeyman graduating in 1981 and then began as a fireman for the City of Kewanee, starting as an Engineer in 1993. He moved to the rank of Captain in 2012 and remained there until retiring in 2018. He also worked at Unity Point Health as an EMS Lecturer. Mike was of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed collecting and shooting guns, was a member of the Chillicothe Sportsman’s Club and enjoyed spending time with his friends.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 6 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with Pastor Andrew Christman officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. As Mike was a dedicated fireman for the City of Kewanee, an honor procession will be provided following his services. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Fire Department.
