KEWANEE – Paul Richard “Unk” Yakes Sr., 82, of Kewanee, died at 8:20 p.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at his home.
Cremation will be accorded and no services are planned at this time. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to his family. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.
He was born December 12, 1938 in Hannibal, MO, the son of Arthur Sidney and Joyce Izetta (Allen) Yakes. He married Wanda Taylor on July 29, 1984. Survivors include three sons; Paul Yakes Jr. of Illinois, Yancy (Tracy) Yakes of Hannibal, MO and Duane Willson of Bloomfield, IN and five daughters; Tamela (Gilson) Cumpston of Canyon Lake, TX, Pammy (Alan) Dyke of Missouri, Tammy (Bruce) Stueve of Iowa, Shelley (Dan) Grieving of New London, MO and Kenna (Don) DeMay of Galva. Also surviving is his best buddy, Trinket and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters; Catherine (Ozra) Bohannon, Betty (Joe Bill) Mahaffey, Dorothy (Joe) Woolery and Peggy (William) Earnest, two brothers, William “Bill” Yakes and Donald (Judy) Yakes and daughter, Kimberly Willson.
Unk served his country in the U.S. Army. In his early years he was an over the road truck driver and had owned and operated Unks Mobile Home Moving. He especially enjoyed John Wayne movies.
