GALESBURG – Philip Gordon Nodeen, 83, of Galesburg, died at 5:45 p.m., Thursday, June 25, 2020 at his home.
He was born October 10, 1936 in Galesburg, the son of Arthur L. and Beda (Ulvan) Nodeen. He attended Wataga Schools and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1954. He worked in the office at Brown Specialty Company in Galesburg where he met Erma Farquer-Chaika and they were married on May 25, 1962 at the Methodist church parsonage in Williamsfield. On that wedding day he became a father to Erma’s three children whom he later adopted.
Gordon served his country in the Illinois National Guard, Battery A of the 125th Artillery-33rd Infantry obtaining the rank of E-6. Following his marriage, he attended Mid-State College in Peoria and got a job in the office at the Galva Foundry Company where he retired after 30 years of service. He and Erma also operated the Glendale Barn Antique Shop at their farm east of Galva. He helped Erma care for her parents and they also raised their grandson, Mark Nodeen. They eventually retired to Galesburg in 2011.
He was a gentleman who loved his children. He was great artist and his paintings had won awards at the Galva Arts Council Shows. He loved to grow and arrange flowers. He finished and restored antiques for the shop. He was a member of the Galesburg Covenant Church.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Arlene Nodeen. Survivors include his children; John (Marsha) Nodeen of Monticello, IL, Gerald Nodeen of Sarasota, FL and Linda (Steve) Scott of Bloomington, IN, grandchildren; Mark (Abby) Nodeen of Sarasota, FL, Jason (C.P.) Nodeen of Vienna, IL, Karen (Adam) Waddell of Suffolk, VA, Patrick Jesse of Indianapolis, IN and Lisa Lytle of Galesburg, great grandchildren; Miranda Nodeen, Ashley Lytle, Michaela Waddell and Jordyn Grzella, three great-great grandchildren; Grace, Parker and Maddoux and his brother, William Nodeen of Lancaster, PN.
Cremation will be accorded and graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 2 at Williamsfield Cemetery. Rev. Philip Laurin will officiate. Memorials may be directed to the Gordon Behrents Senior Center, 2015 Windish Drive, Galesburg, IL 61401. Rux Funeral Home in Williamsfield is in charge of arrangements.
