GALVA – Richard C. Carlson, 86, Galva, died at 7:10 a.m., Friday, October 17, 2025 at Arcadia Care at Kewanee.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 22 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva with Pastor Randy Swanson officiating. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral. Cremation will be accorded following the service and private inurnment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery in Cambridge. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
He was born on January 22, 1939 in Geneseo, the son of Carl and Eunice (Moody) Carlson. Survivors include his son, Douglas (Sue) Carlson of Galva, his daughter, Angela Carlson Shambaugh of Lincoln, NE, eight grandchildren, Tiffany (Justin) Dunn, Travis Shambaugh, Richard Louis (Kyla) Carlson, Billie Jo Swearingen, Wendy Marie Bell, Kerri Ann Halberg, Traci Lynn (Kyle) Chayer and Joshua David Carlson, two great-great grandchildren, Anna and Hailey and a daughter-in-law, Chris Carlson. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Brian and two brothers, LaVern and Glen.
Richard graduated from Galva High School in 1956 and then graduated from Bradley University in 1965. He served in the Illinois National Guard for three years. He had worked as a process engineer from 1965-74 at International Harvester, farmed the family farm and then operated Richard Carlson Realty in Galva until he retired at the age of 62. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, and he enjoyed collecting farm toys.
