KEWANEE – Richard Collins, 85, of Kewanee, formerly of LaFayette, died at 3:08 a.m., Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 12 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva with Rev. Martin Gutzmer officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Senior Citizens Center or to Abilities Plus.
He was born July 24, 1938 in Halbrite Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of Orville and Helen (Cox) Collins. He married Leanna Eshelman on January 12, 1962 in Galva. Survivors include his wife of Kewanee, his daughter, Karin (Douglas) Parrott of Toulon, two sons, Eric (Cora) Collins of Chicago and Timothy (Amy) Collins of Lititz, PA, a sister, Pat (Harold) Kermode of Princeton, IN, a brother, Robert (Margaret) Anderson of Eureka, IL, four grandchildren; Hayley (TJ) Down, Adam (Kelsey) Parrott, Gwen Stovall and Max Collins and four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, Allen Anderson.
Richard graduated from LaFayette High School in 1956 and served his country in the U.S. Army from 1962-64. He farmed in the LaFayette area and had worked for Midland Coal Company in Victoria. He also made stained glass stepping stones and had operated a carpet cleaning business.
