PEKIN - Richard L. Gartin, 63, of Pekin, formerly of Galva, died at 11:15 AM Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at UnityPoint Health - Methodist in Peoria.
Graveside inurnment will be held at 10: 00 a.m., Thursday, August 5 at Galva Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Drane officiating. Military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. Memorials may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project at support.woundedwarriorproject.org or the Henry County Humane Society. Rux Funeral Home in Galva is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born May 20, 1958 in Galesburg, the son of Billy Richard and Mary V. (Garrett) Gartin. He is survived by three sisters, Crystal Hall of Altona and Teresa Hampton and Shirley (Kevin) Thomson, both of Kewanee, two brothers, Alan (Ulanda) Gartin of Geneseo and Gary Swank of Galva and several nieces and nephews and his furry companion, Alf. He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Gartin, his mother, Mary Gartin Swank and a brother, Will Gartin-Wagner.
Richard graduated from Galva High School in 1976 and served his country in the U.S. Army from 1976-84. He had worked as a CAD Designer for Geometric Americas. He was of the Methodist faith and a member of the American Legion Post 2910 in Bloomington. He was an avid knife maker and collector. He also collected firearms and enjoyed target shooting. He also enjoyed watching civil war reenactment gatherings.
