LAFAYETTE – Richard Lee “Rick” Shipman, 75, of LaFayette, died at 6:13 a.m., Sunday, October 11, 2020 at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.
Cremation will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 17 at Hill Church in Kewanee where military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. Private inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established. Rux Funeral Home in Galva is in charge of arrangements.
He was born June 25, 1945 in Marion, IN, the son of David and Alice (Horn) Shipman. He married Cynthia I. “Cindy” Krantz on December 15, 1967 in LaFayette. Survivors include his wife of LaFayette, a son, Kenneth Shipman of LaFayette, a daughter, Barbara (Dean) Simoneaux of Galva, a brother, David Dean Shipman of Wichita Falls, TX, two sisters, Patricia Henry of Victoria and Suzie Shipman of Blue Eyes, MO, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter, Marion Reynolds and two brothers, Danny and Timothy.
Rick served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He had worked as a cabinet maker for Green Gables and had also worked at the Galva Foundry and at Great Dane Trailers. He was a member of the Galva American Legion. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and doing cookouts and he especially enjoyed his family and grandchildren.
