GALVA- Robert Allen Baskovic, 82, of Galva, Illinois, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 15 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva with Pastor Rebecca Gearhart officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, May 14 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Galva, Lake Calhoun Country Club, or the First Congregational UCC Church of Punta Gorda.
He was born on July 11, 1942, in Oak Lawn, Illinois, the son of Frank and Lillian Baskovic. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, daughter, Wendy Nystedt (Mitch) of Morris, IL, son, Wes (Maria) of Silvis, IL and a sister, Patricia Reilly of Kettering, Ohio. Also surviving are his grandchildren Haley, Molly, and Trevor Nystedt, Lissette Martinez and Macio Baskovic.
Bob graduated from Riverside-Brookfield High School and Illinois State University with a Master's degree in instrumental music. His first teaching job was in Virden, Illinois. He married Joyce Bauman in Normal. Illinois, on December 18,1965. In 1965, they moved to Galva where he continued teaching music until his retirement. Many, many students had Mr. “B” as their band teacher. Then he spent several years teaching Music Appreciation at Blackhawk East.
Bob was a long-time member of the Bishop Hill High Society Band. He sang in Choral Dynamics of Galesburg, church choirs in Galva, Kewanee, and Punta Gorda, Florida, and played in other area bands. He was an avid golfer at Lake Calhoun and enjoyed playing other area courses and taking golfing vacations with friends. For the last 18 years, he and Joyce have enjoyed winters in Florida, mostly at Windmill Village in Punta Gorda. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Galva and the Congregational UCC Church of Punta Gorda.
