KEWANEE – Robert M. “Mike” DeReu, 66, of Kewanee, died at 9:50 p.m., Sunday, May 18, 2025 at his home.
He was born on October 19, 1958 in Kewanee, the son of Robert D. and Joyce L. (Wiley) DeReu. He married Edith Mae Hall on February 26, 1989. Survivors include his wife of Kewanee, two sons, Michael (Nicole) DeReu of Mascoutah and Blake (Jessica) DeReu of Kewanee, two daughters, Nichole (Aaron) Aleshire of Olympia, WA and Cassandra Kubinsky, two brothers, Kevin and Jimmy DeReu, both of Kewanee, two sisters, Nancy Bates and Cookie White, both of Franklin, KY and sixteen grandchildren; Thomas, Wyatt, Walter, Weston, Walker, Alexis, Maddison, SáRyah, Kemistri, Ayonah, Judah, Cherish, Olivia, Bailey, Brayden and Braxton. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Jackie DeReu and his grandson, William DeReu.
Robert graduated from Kewanee High School in 1977. He served his country in the Army National Guard from 1977-97 obtaining the rank of Staff Sargeant. He worked as a welder for John Deere for over 20 years. He enjoyed fishing, especially at Kentucky Lake and bowling. He loved his family and cherished the time spent with them.
Cremation will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 27 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Private inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to his family.
