GALVA - Roger N. “Radar” Smith, 63, of Galva, died at 7:15 a.m., Thursday, June 26, 2025 at his home.
Per his wishes, cremation will be accorded and no services will be held. Memorials can be directed for an educational fund or to the Galva Athletic Boosters Association. Rux Funeral Home in Galva is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born on June 30, 1961 in Berwyn, Il, the son of Harold and Ethel (Emken) Smith. He married Debra Hill on May 27, 1984. She survives as well as his children, Krystle Smith (and fiancé’ Gordon), Jason Smith (and Johanna Kremer) Darrious Smith and Jatavius Smith and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, his in-laws, Clarence and Virginia Hill and all of his aunts and uncles.
Radar was raised in Galva and graduated from Galva High School in 1979. He played basketball during his high school years. He attended BHE and received a welding certificate. He also served in the Illinois National Guard for 19 years. He also coached youth baseball and basketball. Roger was a welder and concrete worker, last working for Wilbur Nelson Farm Services. He was also a jack of all trades.
