KEWANEE – Ronald E. “Ron” Doran, 84, of Kewanee, died at 11:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born December 30, 1939 in Pontiac, IL, the son of Eugene E. and Theresa Marie (Froelich) Doran. He married Susan K. Junis on February 1, 1972 in Kewanee and she preceded him in death on August 10, 2009. Survivors include a daughter, Dr. Dawn (Doran) Muci (Francesco) of St. Petersburg, FL, a brother, Ken (Sigrunn) Doran of Bloomington, IL and two grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Edwin A. Doran.
Ron attended both Quincy College and Bradley University where he received a Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering. He worked for Illinois Power in Springfield, IL until he bought Woltil’s Heating and Air Conditioning in Kewanee where he and Susan ran the company for over 45 years expanding the business to include plumbing, insulation, refrigeration, and commercial heating and HVAC services. Ron was a member of Saint John Paul II Parish in Kewanee, IL and a long-time community member of the local Kewanee Ambassador’s Club and serving on the Kewanee Hog Days committee for many years. Ron was a devout racing fan spending time in Daytona to watch NASCAR and Iowa to follow sprint cars. He enjoyed all types of racing including Indy, sprints, and motorcycles. His love for cars led him to enjoy collecting and restoring his own cars.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 9 at Saint John Paul II Parish in Kewanee. Celebrant will be Fr. Chris Haake. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services at the church. The burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Piper City, IL. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Susan G. Komen organization for breast cancer or to Visitation Catholic School.
