It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our brother, uncle, nephew, and friend, Roy L. Brooks. Roy Brooks passed away unexpectedly on May 2, 2022, at the young age of sixty-two. He was born to Betty Brooks Nolan and Leonard Leon Brooks on August 23, 1959, in Galva, Illinois. Roy grew up in Galva and was known around town for his love of basketball and being an avid athlete. He attended school in Galva and graduated in 1977. Roy had many fans that enjoyed watching him play from fifth grade through his senior year of high school. He was a lover of animals, especially his beloved dogs.
Roy was very creative, imaginative, and was a true lover of the arts. One of his greatest passions was music, for which he taught himself how to play the guitar and learned to play all of his favorite songs. Roy paid attention to every detail especially when he created Carpet Art, for which he specifically made amazing, colorful, and perfect parrot rugs. He loved to draw and create visions of what his work would look like.
He was a flooring master and in most recent years he enjoyed creating masterpiece showers, bathrooms, and kitchens. If anyone needed flooring, he was your man, he had every tool needed to do flooring. He had a love for classic cars and has recently been restoring a Blazer.
Roy had the biggest heart and loved his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Betty Brooks Nolan and Leonard Leon Brooks as well as his nephew James Leonard Brooks. He is survived by his longtime friend Lynne (Bevans) Bullock and his four siblings Robert Ernest Brooks, Carrie Mae Brooks, Rebecca Helen Ganssle, and Roger Leon Brooks along with many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, May 15 at the Galva American Legion followed by a graveside service at Galva Cemetery.
