ALTONA - Roy D. Carlson, 91, of Altona died at 4:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

Roy was born July 23, 1933, Henderson Township in Oneida, Illinois, the son of Albert and Anna Carlson. He married Shirley A. (Fortman) on March 3, 1957 at the United Methodist Church in Victoria, IL

He is survived by two daughters, Sally (Eric) Ohlson of Edelstein, IL and Kathy (Rob) Schulz of Dunlap, IL; eight grandchildren, Erin (Eric) Daugherty of San Antonio, Texas, Daniel Ohlson of Peoria, IL, Michelle Ohlson of Peoria, IL, Andrew Schulz of Dunlap, IL, Ryan Cote of Tallahassee, FL, Evan Cote of Tallahassee, FL, Michael Schulz of Dunlap, IL and Steven Ohlson of Edelstein, IL ; two great grandsons, Kai and Aiden Daugherty.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of fifty years, his two daughters; Susan Cote of Tallahassee, FL and Karen Greer of Henry, IL and two grandchildren; Ellen and David Schulz of Dunlap, IL and siblings; Raymond Carlson, Edith Carlson, Alice Carlson and Shirley Schrodt

Roy graduated from ROVA High School in 1951.  Roy made a career of farming in Oneida, DeLong and Altona, IL.  He enlisted in the Army from Sept. 1954- Sept. 1956.  Later working at Dixline Corporation in Galva, IL. Roy and Shirley were leaders of the Walnut Grove Progressors 4-H Club of Altona for many years.  After retiring from farming Roy enjoyed working on antique tractors and being an active member of Maxey Chapel Church of Dahinda and the United Methodist Church of Victoria.  Roy had a beautiful tenor voice and enjoyed singing.  He had a very optimistic outlook on life and a great sense of humor.  He will be dearly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, September 8 at the United Methodist Church of Victoria with Pastor Russell Collister officiating. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Saturday, September 7 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. The burial will be in Galva Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church of Victoria, the Maxey Chapel Church or to the American Heart Association.
