GALVA – Russell Curtis Josephson, 104, of Galesburg, formerly of Galva, died at 8:44 a.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Allure of Lake Storey.
He was born April 4, 1920 in Knox County, IL, the son of Sherman and Augusta (Theesfeld) Josephson. He married Mildred Coleman on February 19, 1944 in Knoxville and she preceded him in death on June 9, 2006. Survivors include his daughter, Sue (Steven) Hoffmann of Rockford, IL, two grandchildren, Eric Hoffmann of Phoenix, AZ and Emily (Tony) Renteria of Machesney Park, IL and four great grandchildren; Dominic, Alexander, Maxwell and Benjamin. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Richard and Robert Josephson, sister, Marian Fidler and his daughter, Ann.
Russell farmed near West Jersey and Galva for 38 years and then owned and operated Josephson Clothing Store in Galva for 14 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Galva, the Galva Lions Club and the Knox County Farm Bureau where he served as its director for 12 years.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 21 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva with Pastor Rebecca Gearhart officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. The burial will be in the Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Ann Josephson Memorial Fund at the First United Methodist Church or to the Galva Lions Club.
