KEWANEE – Samuel Hernandez “Sam” Garcia, 79, of Kewanee, died at 11:05 a.m., Thursday, April 8, 2021 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 14 at the First Christian Church in Kewanee. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 13 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Samuel Garcia Memorial Fund.
He was born September 27, 1941 in El Remolino Coahuila, Mexico, the son of Urbano and Isidra (Hernandez) Garcia. Survivors include his companion and care giver, Glenda Gardner of Kewanee, his children; Carolina (Jesus) Martinez and Yolanda (Lorenzo) Quintero, both of Kewanee, Urbano (Ana) Garcia of Muscatine, IA and Reina Ann Garcia of Kewanee, a sister, Carolina Garcia Cardona of Mexico, eleven grandchildren; Gabriela, Cecilia, Isabela, Noelia, Jesus, Eusebia, Julian, Urbano, Josue, Alonzo and Avianna and his great grandchild, Santiago. He is also survived by children from a previous marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Gabina Ann Garcia.
Sam had worked for BNSF Railroad for 37 ½ years until his retirement. He was of the Catholic faith. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan who enjoyed listening to Mexican music, watching westerns and John Wayne movies and following WWE wrestling.
