Sandra J. "Sandy" Murphy Obituary

KEWANEE - Sandra Jean “Sandy” Murphy, 83, a resident at Addington Place in Clinton, IA, formerly of Kewanee, died at 7:12 p.m., Sunday, April 16, 2023.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 22 at Saint John Paul II Parish in Kewanee. Celebrant will be Fr. John Johndamaseni Zilimu. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11:00 a.m., Saturday at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Saint John Paul II Parish or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

She was born May 16, 1939 in Beloit, WI, the daughter of Ernest and Lucille (Hayes) Zickert. She married Patrick J “Pat” Murphy on August 27, 1960 in Beloit and he preceded her in death on September 1, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, Brian, a brother, Joe Zickert, a brother-in-law, George Poulos a sister-in-law, Peggy Lehr and a brother-in-law, Ken Lehr. She is survived by her children; Denise (Kevin) Vandendooren, Joe (Lori) Murphy and Michele (Phil) Schintler, five grandchildren, Zac (Amanda) Vandendooren, Tyler (Abbey) Vandendooren, Barry Schintler, Heath Schintler and Kaitlin (Michael) Keeran, seven great grandchildren, Adalee Shepard, Kinsley, Brynlee, Callen and Blake Vandendooren, Maddux Keeran and Baby Boy Keeran on the way, two sisters, Patsy Carlson and Colleen Poulos, two brothers, Don (Ginger) Zickert and Bernie (Rainy) Zickert, a sister-in-law, Barbara Zickert and a special family member, Jennifer Woods.

Sandy had worked as a customer service representative at Community State Bank in Kewanee and had also been the City Clerk for the City of Kewanee. She was a member of Saint John Paul II Catholic Parish in Kewanee and had sung in the choir and was also a member of the Kewanee Elks Lodge. She was an avid bowler and Green Bay Packer fan and loved planting and tending to flowers and she maintained a meticulous lawn. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially around the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
