Sandra "Sandy" Johnson

GALVA – Sandra “Sandy” Johnson, 84, of Galva, died Friday, January 31, 2025 at her home.

She was born March 21, 1940 in Lawrenceville, IL, the daughter of Earl W. and Pauline Naomi (Lenear) Richison. She married Wayne M. Johnson on July 7, 1961 in Altona and he preceded her in death on March 6, 2009. Survivors include her siblings; Randy Richison, Danny Richison, Becky Richison-Ashlock, Dixie Heaton and Wesley (Diane) Richison and several cousins, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Larry Richison.

In her early years Sandy worked at a candy shop in downtown Galva, as a cook at Phils Drive-in and at Lily-Tulip. Sandy had also owned a gift and antique shop in Bishop Hill for 21 years. She was a member of the former Grace United Methodist Church in Galva. She had a love for cats and enjoyed sewing and painting and doing crafts, ceramics and China painting with Sharon Collis. She also helped in starting the craft show that happens annually in Galva.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 6 at Galva Cemetery with Pastor Lou Guthrie officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Bishop Hill Heritage Association or to the Henry County Humane Society. Rux Funeral Home in Galva is assisting with arrangements.
