Steven L. "Steve" Anderson

GALVA - Steven Lloyd Anderson, 60, of Galva, IL, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024.

Steven was born on May 17, 1963 in Kewanee, IL to Lloyd and Donna (Downard) Anderson. He is survived by his wife of 19 years Mary Jane, son Steven Anderson Jr. of Galesburg, IL, stepson Tyler (Haley) Simoneaux of Galva, IL, stepsons, Jacob Simoneaux of Galva, IL, and Phillip Anderson of Geneseo, IL and his grandchildren, Gage and Gracelynn Simoneaux, Ethan and Kolten Simoneaux, Kaden, and Jaxson Willer, all of Galva, IL. He is also survived by his parents Lloyd and Donna Anderson of Galva, IL, and brother Mark (Lisa) Anderson of Altoona, IA and several nieces and nephews.

Steven enlisted in the Army Guard his junior year of high school in 1980 and went onto Basic Training at Fort Sill, OK. He graduated from Galva High School in 1981 and then completed his ATT Training. He served in the Army National Guard for 22 years, training in Norway, Honduras, and several locations in the United States.

Steven worked at the Galva Armory for over 35 years as maintenance and grounds keeper and was proud to have the best kept Armory in the State of Illinois. Steven enjoyed camping and fishing with his wife and family. He also liked helping his dad keep his John Deere tractors running and showing them off in parades. His favorite tractor was the 1947 Model-A John Deere. He was a member of the American Legion Post 45 as well as a member of Henry County 40 & 8.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 8 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva with Pastor Melinda Burns officiating. The visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 7 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Galva Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. Memorial contributions can be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.
