SPRINGFIELD – Sybil J. Scott (Ant Syb), 89, of Springfield, IL, formerly of Knoxville and Galesburg, died at 10:13 p.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
She was born, at home, on July 18, 1935 in rural Williamsfield, IL, the daughter of Forrest and Ethel (McNaught) Scott. Survivors include her sister, Myrna Scott, a sister-in-law, JoyAnn (Middleton) Scott, four nieces; Cassandra (Scott) Pego, Karen (Scott) Pine, Cheryl (Scott) Keely and Aimee (Scott) Kral, a nephew, Ed Scott, three great nephews; Aiden Pine, Nolan Pine and Ethan Kral and a great niece, Jessica Gebhart. She was preceded in death by a nephew, Craig Scott, her parents, and her brother David Scott.
Sybil graduated from Williamsfield High School. In her early years she lived in Galesburg, IL. She began working at B.N. Transport in 1955. In the early 80’s she moved to Denver, CO when BN Transport moved operations. After retirement she came home and lived in Knoxville and in Galesburg before settling in Springfield. She enjoyed flowers, doing crossword puzzles, watching television and watching the geese play in the water. She “detested” any form of “kitchen work” and was fond of stating that she had been retired more years than she had worked. She was also a huge and original fan of Elvis, having seen him live in concert in Las Vegas in the early 70’s, and enjoyed listening to him whenever she could. Sybil was left-handed and was also fond of stating: “Left handers are the only ones in their right minds”. She liked the night sky and seeing the moon when it was visible. Sybil was a caring individual who cherished her family and loved being around them. Some of her fondest memories were the wiener roasts at the “House on the Hill” in Williamsfield.
She died peacefully with her sister and nephew by her side to the sounds of Elvis.
Cremation will be accorded and no services are planned at this time. Rux Funeral Home in Galva is assisting the family with arrangements
