Terry L. Cooper, 78, of Kewanee, passed peacefully at 11:13 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2026 at his home.
He was born on February 13, 1948 in Kewanee, the son of George and Elaine (Ensley) Cooper. He married Frances Kay VanDeGenachte on July 1, 1972 in Kewanee and she preceded him in death on April 9, 2020. Survivors include his daughter, Cathy (Bryan) Carter of Kewanee, a son, John Cooper and his girlfriend, Carla Philhower of Kewanee, a sister, Debra (Rick) Dykes of Kewanee, three step-grandchildren; Craig Carter, Brittany Carter and Zara Philhower and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Terry graduated from Wethersfield High School and served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He had worked at various factories in the area, had been a police officer in Galva and Sheffield, was an ordained minister and a member of the Kewanee Auxiliary Police. He found enjoyment in officiating at family weddings, riding motorcycles and visiting with his classmates at the Henry County Senior Citizen Center.
Cremation will be accorded and no services are planned at this time. Private inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is assisting the family with arrangements.
